Youtuber Arrested Over Derogatory Videos Targeting Political Figures, Including Balen

Kathmandu. A YouTuber has been arrested on charges of producing content that insults various political figures, including Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen). The individual, identified as Roshan Pokharel from Panchthar, had been operating a YouTube channel named ‘Hades.’
According to preliminary investigations, the District Police Office of Panchthar stated that Pokharel, through this channel, published videos targeting various public office holders, political leaders, and celebrities, often using abusive, derogatory, and offensive language.
Ramchandra Shah, information officer of the District Police Office, Panchthar, said that Pokhrel was arrested on April 9th from Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-7. “He was found to be making irresponsible and vulgar remarks on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube,” Inspector Shah said, adding that he was taken into custody after it was confirmed that he had also insulted Prime Minister Shah and other political figures.
The District Court of Panchthar has granted permission to extend the remand of the arrested Pokhrel for 10 days, from April 9, to facilitate further investigation. Police stated that an investigation is ongoing under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, on charges related to cyber offences.
