'Blue Buses' for Women Will Remain Green, Says Sajha Yatayat

Kathmandu. Sajha Yatayat has clarified that the proposed women-only "Blue Buses" will not be painted blue despite their name, dismissing viral social media claims and AI-generated images suggesting otherwise.

Bhupendra Aryal, Chief Executive Officer of Sajha Yatayat, said the buses will retain the company's signature green colour, which has been its brand identity for the past 64 years.

"The buses will remain green. Claims that they will be painted blue are merely rumours," Aryal said, urging the public not to believe AI-generated images circulating on social media.

According to Aryal, buses designated exclusively for women may instead be identified through stickers or a differently coloured section, rather than a complete change in paint.

The government has proposed introducing women-only public buses in the Kathmandu Valley under the name "Blue Bus" to improve the safety and convenience of female commuters.

However, despite the announcement, the project has yet to move beyond the planning stage.

At the request of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Sajha Yatayat had agreed to allocate eight buses for the service. The company also sought funding through the Department of Transport Management to cover operational costs.

Aryal said the service cannot begin until the required budget is secured, adding that the government has yet to allocate the necessary funds.
