Kathmandu: Students have taken to the streets after the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) decided to conduct a re-examination for the answer sheets destroyed in an arson attack during the Gen-Z movement.
Protesting in front of the CTEVT headquarters in Sanothimi on Sunday, the students demanded that the council take full responsibility for the burnt answer sheets and cancel the re-examination.
The students insisted that instead of re-exams, alternative evaluation should be arranged based on results from the final, practical, and oral examinations conducted by CTEVT. They also called for an investigation into the staff responsible for the incident and action against those involved in burning the answer sheets.
Additionally, the protesters demanded that results of all CTEVT levels and programs be published within three months of the examination, and that re-exams for failed students be held within one month of the result publication.
More than 15,000 answer sheets from diploma and pre-diploma programs in Koshi and Bagmati provinces were destroyed in the fire on September 9. The answer sheets, kept at a police office for safekeeping after being collected from 23 exam centers, were either burnt or lost in the incident.
In response, CTEVT has announced plans to reconduct the examinations from November 20. However, the students have expressed strong dissatisfaction with this decision and have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are addressed.
