E-Pension Verification Started: 3.5 Lakh Pensioners to Benefit from New Online System

Kathmandu. The government has launched the ‘e-Pension Verification’ system,  allowing retired employees to renew their pensions from home. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle inaugurated this digital system on Friday during a program organized at the Ministry of Finance.

With the implementation of the new system, the Ministry of Finance has stated that the requirement for 352,816 pensioners to stand in queues at the bank or be physically present at government offices for pension renewal has been removed.

This system, based on the ‘IPMS-V2’platform, integrates ‘liveness verification’ technology. It digitally authenticates whether the person is alive and active through facial expressions and gesture-based verification.. Since this system is linked with the national identity card database,  service users can complete verification through their mobile phones or computers.

The Ministry of Finance believes the system will be beneficial for the state, not only technically but also economically. Until now, the government has been paying banks an annual commission of about Rs 150 million for verification management and pension distribution.

The ministry stated that with the service recipients now able to verify themselves digitally, this additional financial burden is expected to decrease significantly.

This system is expected to provide relief, especially to Nepali pensioners living in remote areas, persons with disabilities, and those residing abroad. The requirement to travel to Nepal from abroad, solely for pension renewal, will no longer be necessary. Additionally, since pension calculations will be fully automated, human errors will be eliminated, misuse of funds from inactive accounts will be prevented, and it is believed that full transparency will be maintained in the system.

This system, developed by ‘Third Factor AI’ under Prixa Group, has been implemented nationwide by the Office of the Auditor General.
