Health Worker Detained, Questioned Over Social Media Posts Targeting Health Minister Nisha Mehta

Kathmandu. A health worker from Dhanusha was briefly taken into police custody after posting critical and offensive remarks about Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta on social media.

Nabesh Adhikari was taken into custody by the District Police Office, Dhanusha, on Monday night. According to DSP Madhusudan Neupane, spokesperson for the district police, Adhikari was called in for questioning and was released early Tuesday morning after providing clarification.

"He was brought in for clarification on certain matters. After the necessary questioning, he returned home," DSP Neupane told TechPana.

According to police, Adhikari had recently been posting a series of social media posts criticizing Minister Mehta's performance and demanding her resignation. Some of the posts described the minister using terms such as "thief," "broker," and "mafia minister."

In his posts, Adhikari accused the minister of failing to implement the government's decision to ensure that hospitals reserve 10 percent of beds free of charge for economically disadvantaged patients in the Madhesh region. He also alleged that many of the achievements listed in the minister's 100-day progress report were inaccurate.

Police said Adhikari was questioned after the Cyber Bureau in Kathmandu instructed the District Police Office, Dhanusha, to examine his online activities. No charges had been publicly announced at the time of reporting.
