Lalitpur Metropolitan to Launch Home Ambulance and Medical Team Service for Senior Citizens, People with Disabilities

Kathmandu. Lalitpur Metropolitan City is set to launch a home ambulance and medical assistance service for senior citizens and people with disabilities from 17 July 2026, allowing eligible residents to request medical care by simply calling the dedicated hotline, 1131.

According to the metropolitan's Information Officer, Dev Prasad Guragain, the existing Senior Citizens' Home Health Service, which has been in operation for the past three years, will be upgraded and expanded in the new fiscal year 2083/84.

Under the enhanced service, ambulances equipped with doctors or trained health workers, essential medicines, and advanced medical equipment will be dispatched to patients' homes.

Residents aged 70 years and above, as well as people with disabilities living within Lalitpur Metropolitan City, can access the service by calling 1131. Those seeking medical advice can also receive immediate health consultations over the phone.

If a patient requires urgent care, a medical team will travel to the patient's home by ambulance to conduct an initial examination. Minor health conditions will be treated at home, while patients requiring further care will be transported to a hospital of their choice. The metropolitan said treatment will continue inside the ambulance during transport using facilities available in a Class A ambulance.

To strengthen the service, Lalitpur Metropolitan has coordinated with specialists from Bir Hospital, Patan Hospital, and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. The city says the initiative aims to improve access to healthcare while ensuring adequate investment in the health sector.

Although the service is primarily intended for residents of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the metropolitan said it may also provide emergency assistance to neighboring local governments when required.

Two ambulances have already been designated for the program, while preparations are underway to deploy additional personnel and equipment before the service is officially launched.
