Nearly 200,000 Smartphones Worth Rs 3.41 Billion Imported in Shrawan, Majority from China

Kathmandu: In the first month of the current fiscal year, Nepal imported nearly 200,000 smartphones worth Rs 3.41 billion. According to the Department of Customs, a total of 198,333 smartphones entered the country during Shrawan.
China was the largest source, with 175,829 smartphones worth Rs 2.68 billion imported in a single month. India stood second, exporting 21,958 smartphones worth Rs 689 million to Nepal.
Smartphones ranked seventh among the country’s top imports in Shrawan, following soybean oil, diesel, petrol, cooking gas, DAP fertilizer, and sponge iron.
The government collected Rs 637.9 million in customs revenue from smartphone imports during this period. By comparison, in the same month last fiscal year, Nepal had imported 202,163 smartphones worth Rs 3.46 billion, generating Rs 646.2 million in revenue.
In the last fiscal year 2081/82, Nepal imported 2,184,694 smartphones with a total value of Rs 35.54 billion, the department’s data shows.
