Kathmandu: Former Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central member and former National Planning Commission member Araniko Pandey has been remanded to four days in police custody for investigation into a cybercrime case.
The Kathmandu District Court granted the Cyber Bureau permission to keep Pandey in custody after he was presented in court on Thursday, Cyber Bureau spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) Dipak Raj Awasthi said.
Pandey had appeared at the Cyber Bureau around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, where he was taken into custody following a complaint filed by a woman. She accused him of using abusive language and defaming her through social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
Dr. Pandey, known for his work as an environmentalist, joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party in 2079 BS and was appointed a member of the National Planning Commission in 2080 BS.
Meanwhile, CPN-UML central member Ain Mahar, who was arrested in a separate cybercrime case of a similar nature, was released within hours on Wednesday after giving a general statement.
