Nepal Telecom Reports Rise in Profit and Revenue in Q3 of FY 2082/83

Kathmandu. Government-owned telecommunications company Nepal Telecom has reported an improvement in both revenue and profit in the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2082/83, according to its unaudited financial statements.

The company said it earned around Rs 2.6 billion from telecommunications services during the review period. Its total operating income reached Rs 2.59296 billion, marking an increase of Rs 6.12 million (2.42 percent) compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. Revenue from GSM services rose by Rs 5.774 million (2.76 percent), contributing significantly to the overall growth. The company’s total income stood at Rs 2.88548 billion.

Nepal Telecom also recorded a notable rise in net profit. By the end of April, the company posted a net profit of Rs 627.29 crore, an increase of Rs 5.624 crore (9.85 percent) year-on-year. Earnings per share also improved, rising from Rs 42.3 to Rs 46.47.

The company attributed the growth not only to higher operating income but also to improved cost management. Depreciation expenses fell by Rs 38.69 million (8.46 percent), which supported the rise in profitability. However, financial income declined by around Rs 57.66 million (20.57 percent) due to a drop in market interest rates.

Despite the positive financial performance, Nepal Telecom continues to face challenges from the growing use of OTT platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber, which have affected voice service revenues. In response, the company has been accelerating the migration of ADSL and PSTN users to fiber-based FTTH services.

The company has also expanded its 4G LTE services across all 77 districts and is focusing on technological upgrades to strengthen its service delivery.

While the latest financial results indicate a steady recovery, Nepal Telecom still faces pressure from rising competition and rapid technological shifts in the telecommunications sector.
