Kailali Police Arrest Nine, Including Two Indian Nationals, Over Illegal Cryptocurrency Trading

 

Kathmandu. Kailali Police have arrested nine people, including two Indian nationals, on charges of illegally trading virtual currency (cryptocurrency) in Dhangadhi.

According to the District Police Office, Kailali, the arrests were made during a raid at a house in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-7, where officers discovered cryptocurrency trading being conducted via software applications.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 34-year-old Prem Bahadur Saud of Kailali, 34-year-old Dipin Magar of Udayapur, 36-year-old Ravi Kumar Suryavanshi of New Delhi, India, 37-year-old Dipak Kumar Jatt of Haryana, India, 37-year-old Jitendra Kattel of Bharatpur, Chitwan, 43-year-old Kumar Moktan of Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur, 45-year-old Rajan Chundal of Kageshwari Manohara, Kathmandu, 46-year-old Hari Prasad Chapagain of Damak, Jhapa, and 39-year-old Gyanendra Dhakal of Dhangadhi, Kailali.

Police said all nine suspects have been taken into custody, and the District Court has granted an extension of their remand to facilitate further investigation.

Cryptocurrency trading is prohibited under Nepal's existing laws, and police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
