Kathmandu University’s Dr. Sudan Jha Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

Kathmandu: Kathmandu University professor and IT expert Dr. Sudan Jha has been included in the list of the world’s top 2% scientists for 2025. The list was prepared by Stanford University and international publisher Elsevier, recognizing his contributions in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), deep learning, and related fields.
This globally respected list is based on indicators such as research publication quality, citation count, h-index, co-authorship, and research impact (C-score). Scientists featured in the ranking are among the most frequently cited worldwide, and their work is regarded as highly influential.

Dr. Jha has been active in teaching, research, and the technology sector for more than 23 years. He has published over 100 research papers and authored or edited 10 books. He also holds three registered patents.
He is a professor at Kathmandu University, Director of the KU IT Center, and Principal Investigator of the IoT R&D Lab. Internationally, he is a senior member of IEEE, serves as editor and reviewer for various international journals, and was an expert advisor on the Government of Nepal’s recently launched National AI Policy.

Speaking to TechPana after his recognition, Dr. Jha said, “This achievement is not only personal, but also a shared achievement of my team, students, institution, and family. It proves that international-level research is possible in Nepal.”
His long-term goal is to establish a world-class research center in Nepal and contribute to making the country a leader in AI and emerging technologies.
