Kathmandu. A five-year-old Facebook post of Prime Minister Balendra Shah's political advisor Asim Shah has gone viral on social media. The old post by Shah has come into discussion after he was given additional responsibilities related to the constitutional amendments on Monday.
Even before the establishment of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Shah had posted on Facebook on December 20, 2020, with the slogan ‘King, come save the country,’ stating that the monarchy should be given a chance to reform. Some Facebook users have also commented on Shah's post. As a result, the post has resurfaced and is appearing on user’s Facebook feeds.
The government has decided to form a task force under the leadership of Asim Shah to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendments. It has been stated that all political parties in the parliament will be included.
However, the issue of giving the responsibility of preparing a discussion paper on amendment to Nepal’s democratic Constitution to an individual who had openly supported the monarchy has sparked debate in political cicles.
