Driving License Applicants Advised to Wait for Distribution Notice Despite ‘Printed’ Status

Kathmandu. The government has introduced multiple digital platforms that allow service recipients to check whether their driving license has been printed. However, users remain confused about which platform updates the information first.

To clarify this, TechPana spoke with the Information Technology (IT) officer of the Department of Transport Management and representatives of the Nagarik App.

According to representatives of the Nagarik App, information about printed licenses first appear in the Department of Transport Management’s system, after which the data is integrated into the app via an API. they said that in some cases, phone caching issues may prevent recently updated information from appearing immediately on the app.

The IT officer at the Department of Transport Management said the department’s system is updated as soon as the license is printed by the Security Printing Center. However, the officer clarified that a “printed” status does not necessarily mean the card is immediately ready for collection.

“After the cards are printed, they are sent to the concerned office, where they are sorted and prepared for distribution,” the officer said. “Only after the office issues a distribution notice should people visit the office to collect the card.”

According to the department, displaying the printed status online helps prevent duplication and ensures that no card is missed during the process.

Meanwhile, an issue has been observed in the notification system of the Nagarik App. The app currently displays a message stating, “Your driving license has been printed, please collect it from the respective office,” even though some printed cards have not yet reached the transport offices or may not yet be sorted for distribution. Representatives of the app have acknowledged the issue.

How to check whether the license has been printed?

Users can verify the printing status of their driving license through the Department of Transport Management’s website.

  • First, visit the department’s website by clicking here.

  • Then enter your date of birth (A.D.) and driving license number.

  • The system will display whether the card has been printed and indicate the office from where it can be collected.

Even after the website shows the card as printed, users are advised to check the official website or social media pages of the concerned transport office for a distribution notice. After confirming that their name and license number appear in the notice, users should visit the office with the original receipt. For renewed licenses, the old license card must also be submitted while collecting the new one.
