Kathmandu. Private telecom operator Ncell has announced that it will begin discontinuing its 3G services in selected parts of the country from July 6 as part of its network modernization plan to expand advanced mobile services.
In a notice issued on Sunday, the company said the first phase of the 3G shutdown will cover local levels in districts across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces. Districts in Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces will not be affected during this phase.
Ncell said the move is intended to strengthen its network by transitioning customers to newer technologies. The company claimed that the discontinuation of 3G services would not disrupt communication and that users would instead benefit from improved voice quality and faster internet through Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
Customers have been urged to enable VoLTE by turning on the feature in their mobile phone settings and activating the service by dialing *123*11#. Once activated, users can access HD voice calling and enhanced data services without any additional charges, according to the company.
Ncell stated that its 4G network currently covers around 95 percent of Nepal's population and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality telecom services through modern network technology.
The company also apologized for any inconvenience customers may experience during the transition from 3G services.
