Four Women Arrested in Bara for Tying Four Children to Tree, Beating Them Over Alleged Mobile Phone Theft

Kathmandu. Four women have been arrested in Bara after they allegedly tied four children to a tree and assaulted them over accusations of stealing a mobile phone.
According to the District Police Office, Bara, the incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on 30 June, 2026 in the Tangiya settlement of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-16. The children were allegedly tied with ropes to a banyan tree in a public area before being beaten.
Police launched an investigation after receiving information that the children had been subjected to inhumane treatment over the alleged theft.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 62-year-old Mina Rajan Magar, 32-year-old Pavi Kumari Ale Magar, 30-year-old Ranimaya Moktan, and 42-year-old Nirmala Waiba, all residents of the Tangiya settlement.
Police said the District Court of Bara has granted a five-day remand to investigate the four women under charges related to offenses against children. Further investigation into the case is underway.
