Ashok Darji Says Viral Assault Video Shows Only ‘Half the Truth,’ Denies Theft Allegations

 

Kathmandu. Child singer and artist Ashok Darji has broken his silence after a video showing him being assaulted while being accused of theft went viral on social media, insisting that the allegations against him are false and that he was the victim of a planned attack.

Darji, who had traveled to Kathmandu from Jhapa to promote the teaser of his upcoming film Parvati, said the viral clip captures only part of the incident and does not reflect what happened beforehand.

"I am not wrong; I know I am right. People have only seen half of the video, but no one knows what happened before it," Darji said in a video statement posted on Monday.

According to him, the group involved had threatened him with a knife-like object and helmets before the recording began, leaving him too frightened to respond.

"They showed me a knife-like object and threatened me before filming. They had helmets in their hands and could have attacked me at any moment, so I stayed quiet out of fear," he said.

Darji also alleged that the individuals who assaulted him were themselves involved in stealing money and were attempting to falsely implicate him.

"We did not steal the money. They were the ones who had taken our neighbor's money. When I went to question them, they beat me and branded me a thief," he claimed.

He identified two of the youths involved as Ankit Pradhan and Shukre, accusing them of trying to ruin his future. Darji further said that police have taken Ankit Pradhan into custody.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Darji said he grew up in poverty but had never resorted to theft.

"I begged from a young age. If you ask people in Beldangi about me, they will tell you my history. I raised three or four siblings, but I have never stolen anyone's belongings," he said.

The singer added that the incident has deeply affected his family, saying his parents have been devastated and that he has been unable to sleep since the video surfaced.

"My parents are crying. I haven't been able to sleep since yesterday. I am like your son or your child. Please support me and help me get justice," he appealed.

Darji said he had already filed a complaint regarding the incident at the Anarmani Police Station on July 6, well before the assault video resurfaced and spread widely on social media.
