UDAAN and NDRRMA Sign MoU to Use Drones for Emergency Rescue

Kathmandu: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) is set to deploy drones in emergency rescue operations. On Tuesday, NEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Association of Nepal (UDAAN).

As per the agreement, UDAAN will support NDRRMA by providing drone technology, trained personnel, and equipment for disaster preparedness, immediate response, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized the importance of using technology for rapid response during both natural and human-induced disasters. He said collaboration with non-governmental organizations like UDAAN will be crucial in strengthening disaster response systems.

UDAAN General Secretary Prabin Bhattarai committed to supporting the authority by providing real-time data collection, damage assessment, and access to hard-to-reach areas during emergencies. He added that both drones and certified drone operators would be made available free of cost.
