TikTok Launches ‘Search Guide’ Feature in Nepal to Support Victims of Sexual Abuse

Kathmandu: Short video platform TikTok has launched a new feature called the ‘Search Guide’ in Nepal to raise awareness about sexual abuse and support victims. In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said the feature aims to provide timely help to users at risk of or affected by sexual abuse.

With this feature, when users in Nepal search for terms related to sexual abuse, such as “sexual assault,” “abuse hotline,” or “MeToo”, TikTok will display a special notification. This notification will direct users to the local helpline number and TikTok’s Sexual Abuse Support Page within its Safety Center.

According to TikTok, the support page contains educational resources on topics such as child sexual abuse, grooming, and non-consensual sexual activity. It also includes guidance on how to report abuse-related content, along with links to professional support services. The company has emphasized that user privacy will be fully protected.

Waskito Jati, Outreach and Partnership Manager at TikTok’s Trust and Safety department, said user safety is the company’s top priority. “As many users turn to online platforms during difficult times, we’ve introduced this feature to guide victims to the support they need and reinforce our zero-tolerance policy toward sexual abuse,” he said.

The feature is expected to help both victims and those assisting them by making support more accessible. It includes information on both local and international organizations that specialize in victim care, trauma recovery, and legal assistance. TikTok added that it will prioritize hashtags and content related to treatment and rehabilitation.

The company said it is committed to making its platform safer and is working in partnership with experts, victim support groups, and mental health organizations to improve safety measures.
