Janakpur High Court Begins Live Streaming Court Proceedings on YouTube

Kathmandu. The Janakpur High Court has begun live-streaming its court proceedings on YouTube in a move aimed at making the judicial process more transparent and technology-friendly.

According to the court, the service was launched on Monday under the leadership of Chief Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar. On the first day, hearings from three court benches were streamed live, while from Tuesday onward, proceedings from up to five benches have been broadcast simultaneously.

The live broadcasts are being conducted through the court’s official YouTube channel, ‘High Court Janakpur’, which appears to have been launched on June 9.

Shambhu Bhujel, spokesperson and deputy registrar of the High Court, said the court is managing the service using its existing technical workforce rather than hiring additional personnel.

“Our IT staff are handling the live streaming. A technical employee has been assigned to each courtroom to manage the broadcasts,” Bhujel said.

According to him, the initiative was introduced to allow the public to observe how court hearings are conducted and how justice is delivered without having to visit the court in person.

Bhujel noted that courtroom space is limited and cannot accommodate large numbers of visitors. The live-streaming service was introduced in response to demand from service seekers and stakeholders who want greater access to court proceedings.
