Kathmandu: Tele Direct Pvt. Ltd. (TDPL), the official distributor of Xiaomi smartphones and accessories outside the Kathmandu Valley, has recorded a 27% growth in business. The company attributes part of this increase to higher sales of Xiaomi smartphones powered by the Helio chipset.
According to rating agency Infomerics Nepal, TDPL’s business reached Rs 5.61 billion in 2024/25. In comparison, it posted Rs 4.43 billion in 2023/24 and Rs 6.81 billion in 2022/23.
TDPL has been in Nepal’s smartphone distributorship business since 2010, initially handling Nokia and Colors brands. After signing a distributorship agreement with Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi in 2019, Nokia and Colors were sold through a separate company under trading house Ramesh Corp.
The Colors brand, once an in-house Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) brand of Ramesh Corp., is no longer in existence. Tele Direct, backed by Ramesh Corp., has been the official (non-exclusive) distributor of Xiaomi smartphones and accessories in Nepal since September 2018.
TDPL’s agreement with Xiaomi is non-exclusive and short-term, renewed annually. It is one of two authorized distributors of Xiaomi products in Nepal. The other is Vatsal Impex Pvt. Ltd. of Sharda Group, which holds exclusive rights to sell Xiaomi smartphones in the Kathmandu Valley. Vatsal Impex operates through 14 dealers and over 100 retailers.
Tele Direct’s distribution rights are limited to areas outside the Kathmandu Valley. According to the rating report, Xiaomi’s total smartphone market share in Nepal is 28% in 2024/25. The brand operates through 32 dealers nationwide and more than 1,300 outlets in major cities.
