Nakkhu Prison Incident: Viral 3-Second Video Aimed To Defame Me – Manish Jha
Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) spokesperson Manish Jha has denied involvement in the vandalism and arson at Nakkhu Prison on 9 September. Speaking at a press conference during the party’s central committee meeting on Tuesday, he demanded an impartial government investigation, claiming the video was deliberately spread to defame him.
Jha said the viral video clip circulating on TikTok, Facebook, and other social media platforms shows him calling for an end to the arson. However, he argued that confusion was created by portraying him as being involved in the incident based on the three-second clip.
“Is it wrong for me to step in to stop a crime?” he asked. Expressing concern about society’s mindset, Jha said people now fear being labeled guilty even when trying to help. He warned that anyone could be blamed through such videos, even when saving a neighbor’s house from fire or helping an accident victim.
He confirmed that he has already filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau and requested a thorough investigation. “A police team led by an SSP has been formed to collect the evidence. I personally called and asked for this investigation,” he said.
Jha described the incident as an attempt to assassinate his character, saying it has caused him mental distress. “If society wants people like me out of politics and prefers the same corrupt faces who looted for 35 years, then say so openly,” he remarked.
In the viral clip, Jha is seen in a black T-shirt and white gamchha, running hurriedly and talking to someone. At one point, he turns back and says, “Leave it, leave it.” By then, arson had already started at the prison gate and protesters were vandalizing the area.
