Kathmandu: The federal, provincial, and local governments have been directed to reuse old equipment instead of buying new ones. The Council of Ministers made the decision on 21 September to cut unproductive spending and promote austerity.
Under this decision, officials and employees at all three levels will have to continue using old vehicles, mobile phones, laptops, and desktops instead of replacing them with new ones.
The government also introduced a policy to auction unusable goods and promote the reuse of old items. The purchase of expensive electronics and luxury goods has been banned.
All ministries, agencies, provincial governments, and local levels have been instructed not to hold non-essential training, workshops, or seminars. If necessary, they should be organized in government halls or conducted online.
Employees have been asked to use budget allocations for communication charges sparingly and ensure that electricity-consuming devices like lights, air conditioners, and fans are turned off when not needed.
The government has further directed that no permanent structures be created by contracting out or outsourcing work.
