Kathmandu: Nepal Police Inspector General Chandra Kuber Khapung has rejected reports claiming he threatened to resign if pressured to arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Nepal Police Headquarters said that such reports were false and misleading.
“The serious attention of the Nepal Police Headquarters has been drawn to the misleading news published and broadcast by various media outlets in recent days, claiming that Inspector General of Police Chandra Kuber Khapung said he would ‘resign if pressured or forced to arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak,’” the statement read.
The headquarters clarified that IG Khapung’s meetings and reports with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were focused solely on law and order and the analysis of security challenges, not on any political matters.

Several online media outlets had reported that Khapung threatened to resign amid alleged pressure to arrest Oli and Lekhak in connection with the crackdown during the Gen-Z movement. The reports had sparked widespread discussion on social media.
