Kathmandu: Activist and founder of the Clean and Green Ashika Foundation, Ashika Tamang, has urged her donors to carefully check their donations before transferring money. Tamang made this appeal on social media after a rise in cases where donors accidentally sent large amounts and later requested refunds when they had meant to donate only small sums.
Tamang had recently called for support for the “Warm Clothes in Winter” campaign. Under this campaign, the foundation aims to distribute warm clothes to schools in remote districts. In her social media post, she wrote, “From next month, we will be visiting schools in remote districts with the ‘Warm Clothes in Winter’ campaign. Teachers can send their school name and student number to our foundation’s email [email protected]. Those who wish to help can donate through our website ashikafoundation.org.” She added that she is arranging for all information to be displayed transparently on the website.
After her call for support, donors began sending money. On Monday, Tamang made another post saying that even a minimum of one rupee can be donated to the foundation. Soon after, several donors started making transfer errors.
In the first incident, a person who intended to donate Rs 7 mistakenly transferred Rs 7,000. When the person later requested a refund, Tamang explained the foundation’s policies. She wrote, “When someone tried to donate Rs 7 but accidentally transferred Rs 7,000, he asked for a refund. I would like to make a humble request to everyone, this is an organization. I cannot use voluntarily received money, and refunds can only be made after completing all official procedures.”
Tamang said that the process of withdrawing funds from the organization is complex. According to her, money cannot be accessed through mobile banking; only the total balance can be viewed. To withdraw funds, the consent of seven members is required, and the withdrawal must be made through a check signed by both the treasurer and the president. She urged everyone to be cautious, writing, “Please check carefully before transferring your donation. Thank you.”
However, right after this request, another donor also made an error and transferred a large amount. After sending Rs 55,500 by mistake and requesting a refund, Tamang posted again on social media. She wrote, “Today, another person mistakenly sent Rs 55,500 and has requested a refund. I have already contacted the bank to return it, and I have been informed that both yesterday’s Rs 7,000 and today’s Rs 55,500 will be refunded today.”
Tamang urged donors to be patient and to double-check before making transactions. “Please, there will be no harm in taking a moment to review. Check the account number carefully before making your donation,” she said.
