Kathmandu: The control room of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, which was damaged by arson during the Gen-Z protest, has been reconstructed and handed over.
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) rebuilt the damaged control room and officially handed it over to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office on Tuesday.
Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of the Association’s International Coordination Council, and Manoj Kumar Shrestha, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Disaster Management Committee, handed over the key of the newly reconstructed control room to Additional Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki.
The upgraded control room features modern technology designed to help reduce road accidents and control crime. The association also plans to provide the traffic police with breathalyzer equipment for alcohol testing soon.
During the protests on September 8 and 9, police and traffic offices in several parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, were vandalized and set on fire. As a result, essential equipment, including the police’s information technology infrastructure, was destroyed. After the incidents, the police faced communication challenges in operating CCTV surveillance and tracking suspects.
