Kathmandu: The Security Printing Center will begin printing sample driving licenses from today. According to Keshav Khatiwada, Director of the Department of Transport Management, all preparations for the sample printing have been completed at the center’s facility in Banepa.
He said that if the sample printing goes well, regular license printing will start soon. “The sample will be printed today, and if everything looks good, regular printing will begin right away,” Khatiwada told TechPana. “We can no longer afford to take the license printing process lightly.”
As per the agreement between the Department of Transport Management and the Security Printing Center, the center will print 1.2 million licenses within six months in the first phase. However, Khatiwada said the target could be met within three months if the center expands its capacity.
So far, about 2.5 million people who have passed the driving test are still waiting for their licenses. Due to budget constraints, the department has initially agreed with the Security Printing Center to print only 1.2 million licenses.
“Our goal is to print the remaining 1.3 million licenses within a year by requesting additional funds from the ministry,” Khatiwada said. “It has not yet been decided whether the ministry will allocate the budget in this fiscal year or the next.”
