Kathmandu: A post shared by Chitwan Rhinos on their official Facebook page after defeating Karnali Yaks in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has gone viral. The post, which symbolically mocked the opposing team, has triggered a debate on social media both in favor and against.
On the second day of the NPL, Chitwan Rhinos chased down the 167-run target set by Karnali Yaks with 5 balls remaining, losing 6 wickets. Batting first, Karnali scored 166 runs for 3 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Immediately after winning the match, Chitwan Rhinos posted a symbolic photo on their Facebook page. The image shows a rhino attacking a cow on a cricket field, presented as a visual metaphor for the team’s victory. The caption reads, “Rhinoceros put on a strong performance and secured their first win of the season.”
Fans of Chitwan Rhinos have praised the post. Many called it an “amazing roast” and argued that the designer who created it deserves an award.
Others, however, criticized the franchise’s social media manager for being immature. Critics argued that mocking teams from the same country in a domestic tournament is inappropriate.
Some warned Chitwan to “be ready to face similar trolls when they lose,” while others described it as the “beginning of a meme war.” They believe such posts will fuel unnecessary conflict among supporters and that the team should show respect toward opponents.
The post continues to spread rapidly on social media. It has received more than 15,000 reactions, over 850 comments, and around 200 shares. Other Facebook pages and groups are also circulating screenshots of the post.
