Kathmandu: Two people have been arrested on charges of trying to influence players in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). The police have increased their surveillance after receiving specific information about betting activities based on information from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Preliminary investigation by the police has confirmed that the players were contacted through WhatsApp and Instagram with the intention of 'sponsoring' the NPL, which will run until 10th December, and were offered financial incentives with the aim of influencing the outcome of the match.

A team deployed for special investigation took control of Dilpreet Singh, 28, a native of Haryana, India, and Rebika Singh Thakuri, 24, a native of Bardiya and currently living in Chandigarh, India, from Lazimpat on Tuesday.

Police have said that they are being investigated under the crime of attempting to exert unauthorized influence over NPL players and promoting betting.

They have been handed over to the District Police Complex, Bhadrakali for further investigation, according to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
