Voter List Registration and Update Resume; Online Enrollment Opens

Kathmandu. The voter list update process has resumed as of Sunday. After being put on hold on November 22, 2025, the Election Commission has resumed work on revising the voter list.

According to the Commission, Nepali citizens who have obtained a national identity card can register their names in the voter list online using their national identity card details. In addition, Nepali citizens who are not affiliated with the national identity card system will need to fill out an online form through the Commission's pre-enrollment system.

After that, the applicant must be physically present at the provincial or district election offices to provide their biometric details, including a photograph and fingerprints. Additionally, there is a provision to apply online for tasks such as correcting errors in the voter list, removing duplicate names, and updating information related to death and migration.

Through this, it is possible to correct errors such as names, surnames, and addresses; transferring the name of the voter to a convenient location if there are two or more polling stations within the same ward; and correcting inconsistencies not related to citizenship details, the Commission has stated.

How to register?

If you have a national identity card number, you can use it to register your name in the voter list yourself. To begin, go to the Commission's website (election.gov.np) or click here.

After accessing the Commission’s website, click on Voter List ‘Pre-Registration and Update (Online Pre-Enrollment)’ or click here to go directly to it.

Now you will see two options: register a new voter registration and update the list. Click on ‘New Registration’ (or click here).

Once you enter the portal, you will again see two options. In the first option, labeled ‘Voter Registration through National Identity Card Number (NIN)’, fill in the National Identity Card number, date of birth (in English), and first name (in English) as per the National ID.

Now, finally, enter the result obtained by adding the given figures, and after the green circle appears, click on the blue button labeled ‘Authenticate with NIN’.

After this, the commission’s system cross-checks details with the national identity card database, and if all the details match, the process of registering the voter begins. When a new page opens, your permanent address as per your citizenship will be displayed; if it is not displayed, fill in the address manually.

Then, fill in the missing details in the personal information section and click the ‘Next’ button at the bottom right corner. Then, the citizenship details section will be displayed. Fill in the missing details there. Enter the permanent residence address. This will be your designated voting location. If your address has changed due to a new residence or marriage, you can upload the relevant documents and select a new voting location.

After completing this, please indicate whether you have any disability. Fill in other details such as your mother tongue, ethnic category, and educational qualification. Finally, carefully check all the details and press the ‘Register’ button. Upon submission, your voter registration will be completed, and you must keep your voter number safe.

How to do voter list pre-registration?

If you do not have a National Identity Card, you will need to enroll your name through pre-registration. For this, first proceed through the ‘Voter List Pre-Registration and Update (Online Pre-Enrollment)’ option as shown above, or you can directly click here

Click on ‘New Registration’ or simply click here. Now, here you need to select the second option that says ‘New Voter List Registration (for those without a national ID card)’. For that, enter your mobile number and click on the arrow.

Please wait for a six-digit OTP code to arrive on your mobile phone, and enter it. Now, click on the ‘New Registration’ option located at the top left corner.

Immediately, a notification window will open. In it, you need to confirm that your name has not yet been included in the voter list, along with information about the documents you will need to provide when submitting your biometric details after completing this pre-registration. To process, click the checkbox below and then click the green button labeled ‘Start’.

After this, you need to fill in the details, including your permanent address, personal details, citizenship information, whether you have a disability, and contact information, and then submit the form. Afterward, the details you have filled in will be forwarded to your voting center.

After filling out the online form, you need to go to the relevant district election office with a printed copy containing the received reference number and the necessary documents to provide biometric information.
