Minister Timilsina Meets Chinese and Japanese Ambassadors on Tech Collaboration

Kathmandu. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina held separate courtesy meetings on Monday with the ambassadors of China and Japan at the ministry in Singha Durbar, focusing on cooperation in information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity.
During his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming, discussions were held on strengthening bilateral cooperation in Nepal’s digital development. Ambassador Maoming said China is ready to support Nepal’s economic and social development, including collaboration in technology-based production, AI applications, and emerging areas such as quantum technology.
Minister Timilsina said the government has prioritized improving service delivery through digital infrastructure, connectivity, and information technology. The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in cybersecurity and telecommunications.

In a separate meeting with Japanese Ambassador Maeda Toru, the Japanese government expressed its commitment to support Nepal’s IT sector development. Ambassador Toru stressed the need for policy and procedural reforms to encourage investment from Japan’s private sector in Nepal.
He also highlighted the contribution of Nepali professionals in Japan’s IT sector and suggested leveraging the diaspora for investment, skills transfer, and digital transformation initiatives.
Minister Timilsina, recalling longstanding ties between Nepal and Japan, said cooperation in AI, cybersecurity, and telecommunications remains a priority for Nepal.
The ministry stated that discussions with both ambassadors reflected the government’s commitment to advancing digital transformation and improving public service delivery through technology.
