Over 150 Startups Apply for 5th NYEF Startup Awards, Grand Finale Set for May 31

Kathmandu. More than 150 startups from across Nepal have applied for the 5th edition of the ‘NYEF Startup Awards’ organized by the Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs’ Forum.

According to a press release issued by the forum, startups from 14 locations, including the Kathmandu Valley, have participated in the competition. Organizers stated that 78 percent of the applications are technology-based startups, including ventures in EdTech, AgriTech, HealthTech, FinTech, and e-commerce sectors.

Among the applicants, 94 percent of the startups are between one and three years old, while 55 percent are newly established ventures operating for less than a year. In terms of geography, 60 percent of the applications were submitted from the Kathmandu Valley, while the remaining 40 percent came from cities outside the valley, including Pokhara, Janakpur, Biratnagar, and Dhangadhi.

Sector-wise, the highest participation has been recorded in the information technology sector with 31 percent of applications. This is followed by manufacturing (19 percent), education (15 percent), services (11 percent), agriculture (7 percent), health (4 percent), tourism (4 percent), and trade (9 percent).

The organizers conducted an orientation session last Wednesday for startups shortlisted for the next stage of the competition. Selected participants will now attend an intensive bootcamp focused on mentorship and training. The grand finale of the award program is scheduled on May 31.

According to the organizers, winners of the competition will receive national recognition, mentorship from established entrepreneurs, networking opportunities with investors, and cash prizes.

The forum has been running entrepreneurship promotion programs since 2003 to identify promising startups and support their business growth. Currently, the organization has more than 1,000 young entrepreneurs associated through its 14 chapters across Nepal.
