Fake “World Cup 2026 Live TV” Apps Spark Surge in APK Cyber Scams, Nepal Police Warn

Kathmandu. As the FIFA World Cup 2026 approaches, the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau has issued a public warning over a rise in online scams involving malicious applications and fraudulent links circulating on social media platforms.

The bureau said cybercriminal groups have become increasingly active in Nepal, targeting users by offering “free access” to World Cup streaming services through suspicious applications and links.

According to the notice, users are being lured into downloading unknown APK files under claims such as “World Cup 2026 Live TV” and similar apps. The bureau warned that once installed, these applications can compromise mobile devices, potentially enabling unauthorized access to personal data, including mobile banking services, leading to financial fraud.

Authorities noted that scammers have been circulating links promoting fake apps such as “NB TV,” encouraging users to install third-party APK files outside official app stores.

The Cyber Bureau has strongly advised the public not to download or install applications from unverified APK sources under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins on June 12, have been secured in Nepal by Himalaya Sports and the Digo app.
