Kaski Transport Office Begins Distribution of 150,000 Backlog and Newly Printed Driving Licenses

Kathmandu. The Transport Management Office, Driving License, Kaski has started distributing more than 150,000 backlog driving licenses that had remained pending since 2023, along with licenses printed under the government’s newly introduced printing system.

Issuing a public notice, the office informed that licenses for service recipients who paid revenue for new applications, renewals, and category additions have now arrived at the office and distribution has begun.

The office has prioritized distributing licenses for applicants who completed revenue payment between 15 April and 11 May 2026. This marks the first batch of licenses received by the Kaski office after the government introduced a policy to print licenses within 24 hours of application.

Earlier, around the first week of April, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina had announced that driving licenses for new applicants would be printed within 24 hours. However, despite the accelerated printing process, it has still taken nearly a month for the licenses to reach the respective transport offices and be distributed to applicants.

According to Govinda Chaudhary, Information Officer at the Transport Management Office in Kaski, delays have occurred due to transportation and procedural processes between the Security Printing Center and the Department of Transport Management before delivery.

“Although the Security Printing Center prints the licenses within 24 hours, transportation and technical procedures still require additional time before they arrive here,” Chaudhary told TechPana. “So far, we have received around 3,000 to 4,000 licenses printed under the new system, and distribution has already started.”

The office has also resumed distributing backlog licenses pending since 1 January 2023. According to the office, around 40,000 licenses under the backlog category are still awaiting printing and delivery.

Officials have urged people to verify online whether their licenses have been printed before visiting the office for collection. Applicants can check the status of their licenses through the Department of Transport Management’s official website.
