DDoS Attack Disrupts Government e-GP System for Four Days, Tender Deadlines Extended

Kathmandu. A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the government's electronic procurement (e-GP) system has disrupted the service for the past four days, forcing authorities to repeatedly extend tender submission deadlines.
The Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO), which operates the e-GP platform, said the system has remained largely inaccessible since Sunday due to a massive volume of bot-generated traffic targeting its servers.
As a result, the office has extended procurement deadlines three times so far. According to the PPMO, the attack has prevented users from accessing the e-GP website, affecting tender submissions and procurement processes across the country.
PPMO spokesperson Ram Prasad Acharya said technical teams are working to restore the system but have faced difficulties due to the continued cyberattack.
“The system was accessible for a short period on Tuesday, but it went down again after the attack resumed,” Acharya told TechPana. “Our team is working to bring it back online, and we hope the service will be restored soon.”

The disruption has prompted the office to revise several procurement deadlines. Tenders originally scheduled to close on June 1 and 2 have now been extended to June 4 and 5, respectively.
Earlier, the deadlines had been extended by one day, but as the problem persisted, the office was compelled to grant further extensions to ensure bidders were not disadvantaged by the outage.
According to Acharya, the large volume of bot traffic has made it difficult to immediately identify the source of the attack or those responsible. The prolonged outage has affected procurement activities and tender announcements by government agencies and public bodies nationwide.
