Ministry Forms Committee to Probe Nepal Television Equipment and Technology Procurement

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Information and Communications has formed a four-member committee to investigate the procurement processes of equipment and technology carried out at various times by the public service broadcaster, Nepal Television.

According to the ministry, the committee was formed following a ministerial decision on June 15 and is coordinated by Dr. Sudip Bhattarai. It has been mandated to conduct a fact-based study of complaints, reports and public concerns related to equipment, software and digital systems purchased by Nepal Television, and to submit its findings with recommendations within 21 days.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the procurement of graphics systems, new media (digital platform) services, audio and video equipment, digital transmitters and the playout automation system acquired for Nepal Television’s Itahari channel.

Officials said the investigation will also examine complaints and grievances raised by various agencies regarding these procurements.

In recent years, concerns have repeatedly been raised over transparency and compliance with legal procedures in Nepal Television’s technology and broadcasting infrastructure upgrades. The ministry had previously formed a separate investigation committee into the broadcaster’s satellite procurement process.
