Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has said that a mobile application has been developed to track construction equipment such as dozers in real time and ensure rapid clearance of roads blocked by landslides during the monsoon season.
Speaking to journalists after a discussion at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Singha Durbar, Gurung said disaster response efforts will be made more efficient through the use of technology.
According to him, the app has been developed in coordination with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the Ministry of Home Affairs and allows authorities to monitor the real-time location of dozers and other heavy machinery across the country. This enables officials to deploy the nearest available equipment to landslide-hit areas without delay.
Gurung said the initiative aims to reduce delays in locating equipment during emergencies, which often leave stranded passengers and disrupt rescue operations. He added that this year’s disaster response strategy places greater emphasis on the use of available resources, including helicopters, for rescue and relief operations rather than administrative inspections.
He said measures have been strengthened to ensure quicker response times and to prevent citizens from being left waiting on blocked roads for extended periods.
Recalling his experience in past disaster response operations, the Home Minister said the government is now committed to using technology-driven systems to minimize loss of life and property.
