Self-Proclaimed Nepal’s First ‘Naturopathic Specialist’ Dr Chetana Paudel Arrested Over Illegal Medical Practice

 

Kathmandu. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested Chetana Paudel, a social media health influencer who claimed to be Nepal’s first naturopathic specialist, on allegations of practicing medicine without the required qualifications and registration.

Paudel was taken into custody on Tuesday following a complaint filed by the Nepal Medical Council. She is accused of using professional medical titles without holding a recognized medical degree and providing treatment services without being registered with the council.

Through her Facebook page, ‘Dr Chetana Paudel,’ she regularly shared health-related advice and introduced herself as “Nepal’s first naturopathic specialist” and a “functional medicine specialist.” Her social media presence includes more than 124,000 followers on Facebook and over 12,000 followers on TikTok.

Paudel, who operated Spark International Health Resort in Chandragiri Municipality–8, allegedly examined patients, prescribed medicines, and provided treatment using modern allopathic medical methods without authorization.

The Nepal Medical Council said evidence of unauthorized medical practice was discovered during routine monitoring. The council subsequently lodged a complaint with the CIB seeking legal action.

Following a preliminary investigation, the bureau obtained an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday and arrested Paudel from Chandragiri–8 the same day.

Police said further investigation is underway under provisions related to medical offenses in the Muluki Criminal Code, 2074.
