Kathmandu: A disturbing video showing a dog being brutally tortured and killed has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage and calls for legal action against those involved. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident took place in Simkot, Humla.
The video, which began circulating on Sunday, shows a dog suspended by a rope from a large rock while stones are thrown at it from above. A child is visible in the footage, although the faces of other individuals allegedly involved are not clearly seen. Simkot Airport is also visible in the background, helping identify the location.
The footage was posted from the TikTok account bibek.sunar790. According to the upload history, the first video was shared at around 10:48 am on Sunday, followed by another video at 10:54 am showing the dog after it had died.
Although the footage appears to have been recorded near Simkot Airport, local police initially said they had not received any complaint or information about the incident.
Assistant Inspector of Police Jung Bahadur Gharti of the District Police Office, Humla, said the police were unaware of the incident until they were informed about the viral video. After reviewing the footage provided by TechPana, police confirmed that the video was indeed filmed in Simkot.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across Facebook and TikTok, with users demanding that authorities identify those responsible and take strict legal action.
Many social media users have tagged Nepal Police and animal rights advocates, urging an immediate investigation. Others have called for stronger enforcement of laws against animal cruelty and tougher punishment for offenders.
The viral video has intensified public calls for the police and local administration to launch an investigation based on the available footage and bring those responsible under the legal process.
