Viral Video Leads to Arrest of Ghorahi Ward Member Accused of Pouring Mobil on Education Officer

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a ward member of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City after a viral video showed him pouring mobil on an education officer while the latter was riding a motorcycle.
The Dang District Police Office arrested 42-year-old Uttam Budhathoki, ward member of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 15, on Monday in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of July 11, when Education Officer Ajay Bohara was travelling on a government motorcycle as the designated polling officer for the School Management Committee election at Padmodaya Public Model Secondary School in Ghorahi-15.
Police said Budhathoki stopped Bohara on the way and poured mobil over him, accusing him of failing to stop the election.
A video of the incident, showing the education officer being assaulted while on his motorcycle, quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread criticism.
Following the incident, Bohara filed a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, a case was registered against Budhathoki on July 12 under charges related to insulting and inhumane treatment.
After obtaining an arrest warrant from the Dang District Court, police launched a search for the accused. Budhathoki was arrested on Monday morning while hiding in Ghorahi-15, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Information Officer Dr. Hem Bahadur KC.
Police said the process of extending Budhathoki's judicial custody is underway as the investigation continues.
