TikTok to Launch AI Literacy Hub in Nepal to Help Users Identify AI-Generated Content

Kathmandu. TikTok has announced that it will introduce an in-app AI Literacy Hub in Nepal in the coming weeks, aiming to help users identify, understand, and responsibly engage with content created using artificial intelligence.

The initiative comes as generative AI increasingly transforms how digital content is produced and shared. TikTok said the new hub is designed to reduce the risk of users being misled by AI-generated material while promoting a safer online experience.

According to the company, Nepali users who search for AI-related topics on TikTok will be directed to the AI Literacy Hub, where they will find educational resources, practical videos, and step-by-step guides on recognizing AI-generated content, using AI tools responsibly, and understanding the opportunities and limitations of the technology.

TikTok developed the resources in collaboration with the News & Media Literacy Alliance (NAMLE) and deepfake researcher Henry Ajder.

The company said the initiative is particularly relevant as the number of Nepali creators using AI tools in their content continues to grow. TikTok believes the hub will encourage more responsible content creation and improve viewers’ ability to assess the authenticity of online information.

Alongside the literacy campaign, TikTok said it has strengthened measures against spam and misleading content generated through the misuse of AI. The platform removed more than 86 million fake accounts globally during the first three months of this year.

The company added that its enhanced monitoring systems will pay special attention to AI-generated misinformation related to politics, public health, and financial advice, areas where inaccurate information could have significant real-world consequences.

TikTok is also expanding its labeling requirements for AI-generated content. Through its Content Credentials technology, AI-related information labels have already been applied to more than three billion videos worldwide, helping users distinguish between authentic footage and content created or significantly altered with AI tools.

As part of its broader global effort to improve public understanding of artificial intelligence, TikTok said it has invested more than 40 million US dollars in AI literacy initiatives.
