Tribhuvan University to Stop Issuing Equivalency Certificates from July 17

Kathmandu. Tribhuvan University (TU) will no longer determine the equivalency of higher education qualifications, with the responsibility officially shifting to the University Grant Commission (UGC) from July 17, 2026.

In a notice, TU's Curriculum Development Center (CDC) said the change follows the amendment to the University Grant Commission Act, 1993, through the Bill, 2082 to Amend Certain Nepal Acts, which transferred the authority to determine academic equivalency to the UGC.

Accordingly, the CDC announced that it will stop accepting new applications for equivalency certificates from Friday, July 17, 2026. From that date onward, all applications for the recognition and equivalency of higher education degrees will be handled by the University Grant Commission.

The Curriculum Development Center had been issuing equivalency certificates for academic qualifications for more than three decades. However, following the legal amendment enacted last year, the authority has now been formally transferred to the UGC, making it the sole body responsible for granting equivalency certificates.
