Kathmandu: Aakash Tech, a company active in the bulk SMS sector, has launched its own Interactive Voice Response (IVR) service. The company says this new technology, developed entirely in Nepal, aims to provide affordable and accessible services while eliminating reliance on foreign software.
IVR is an automated telephone system that uses pre-recorded messages to guide callers through options to either submit information or connect with a relevant representative.
For instance, when calling a bank, users often hear instructions like “Press 1 for Nepali” or “Press 2 for English.” Based on the selected options, the system eventually connects the caller to the appropriate person. The technology and software that run this entire process are known as IVR.
Brijesh Gupta, CEO of Aakash Tech, claims that this is the first IVR software fully developed in Nepal.
“Other companies have been offering this service through foreign software, but we built it locally,” Gupta said. “That’s why our service is very cost-effective.” He added that the IVR service will be available via both mobile apps and web platforms.
Currently, the company provides SMS services to over 10,000 businesses. According to Rajan Koirala, head of the company’s sales department, more than 11.2 million people are using Aakash Tech’s various services, primarily banks and financial institutions.
