Hitendra Dev Shakya announces: Smart meters for 600,000 households in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Hitendra Dev Shakya, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, has announced that pre-connected meters in the homes of 600,000 customers in Kathmandu will be replaced with smart meters. He made the announcement while issuing a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Nepal Electricity Authority on Sunday.

He added that the gradual replacement of traditional meters with smart meters across the country will also be carried forward. “To replace traditional and mineral energy, necessary programs will be implemented to widely increase electricity consumption in households, charging stations, agriculture, industry, and tourism,” Shakya said. “In addition, the private sector will be encouraged to invest in this business.”

It is noted that digitalization efforts will proceed in line with the Authority’s IT Policy 2080 to enhance organizational capacity and improve the efficiency of service delivery.
