Kathmandu: A video is going viral on social media claiming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday and strongly raised Nepal’s objections to the India-China agreement on Lipulekh. The text in the video reads: “KP Oli’s courage: He clearly stated in front of Xi Jinping that we do not accept the agreement between India and China on Lipulekh.” (Translated)
Tekpana’s fact-checking has found that this video was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and is intended to mislead the public.
Claim
A Facebook user named Samik Badal posted a 40-second video at 7:48 pm on Saturday with the caption: #KPOliForNepal #जनताको_आवाज_Oli #NepalFirst_Oli #KP_Oli_Leadership #OliWithPeople. Badal, who is also the outgoing president of the CPN-UML’s student organization All Nepal National Free Students Union, saw the video go viral shortly after posting it. In the video, the top part shows a news report, while the bottom part shows Prime Minister Oli meeting Xi Jinping in a bilateral setting. The text in the clip claims:
"Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has once again demonstrated his strong commitment to protecting Nepal's sovereignty. In his meeting with President Xi Jinping, he firmly raised Nepal's objection to the India-China agreement on Lipulekh, making it clear that this territory belongs to Nepal under the historic Sugauli Treaty. His clear stance reflects his courage as a leader and his determination to defend Nepal's national interest, while also expressing confidence in China's role as a supportive and trusted partner. This shows Oli's ability to balance diplomacy with firmness, strengthening Nepal's voice on the global stage."
The same content is also translated into Nepali in the video. As of writing, the video has received more than 198,990 views, 1,500+ reactions, 247+ comments, and over 2,000 shares. (See the original post, archived post, and screenshot.)

It has been especially circulated by leaders and activists of the CPN-UML, ranging from ministers to MPs.
Let’s look at some screenshots.

Research
Since the video was spreading widely, the TechPana fact-checking team began an investigation. It is true that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met Chinese President Xi Jinping, as confirmed by official photos and videos. However, the viral video claims Oli strongly objected to the India-China agreement on Lipulekh during this meeting and cited the Sugauli Treaty. To verify, Techana conducted a Google Reverse Image Search on the news anchor’s face, but no results matched. No legitimate media content with the same anchor or description could be traced.
The video also raised suspicion because of its fixed camera angle, limited head movements, lip-sync mismatches, and unnatural skin and hair textures. When analyzed using the AI detection tool Hive Moderation, the video scored 99.2% AI-generated, with audio identified as 99% AI-generated.

Similarly, frames extracted using InVid and tested with Was It AI also confirmed the visuals were AI-created.

The presenter’s gestures and voice coordination appear unnatural, further proving the video was generated using advanced AI tools to mimic authenticity.

Conclusion
The video circulating on social media claiming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli strongly raised Nepal’s objections to the India-China agreement on Lipulekh in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping is fake. The video is AI-generated, confirmed by multiple AI detection tools. There is also no credible Chinese or Nepali media outlet that has reported such a statement. Similarly, structural inconsistencies in the video, camera angle, presenter’s gestures, and lip-sync, further prove it is fabricated. This video was deliberately created to mislead the public.
