Scammers Impersonate Singers Eleena Chauhan And Rachana Rimal, demand Rs 50,000

Kathmandu: It has been found that money is being solicited through fake Facebook accounts created in the names of singers Eleena Chauhan and Rachana Rimal. The scammer even messaged the singers themselves, asking for money by claiming hardship and hunger after the Gen-Z movement.

A message sent from a fake account in the name of Rachana Rimal read:
“Hello Didi, greetings. This ID was not opened for any other interest. Since the financial situation is weak after the Gen-Z movement, there is a shortage of food, shelter, and clothing. I opened this account hoping you would help me with fifty thousand rupees. I will delete it after the work is done.”

Along with the message, an e-Sewa QR code was also sent to transfer the money.

A similar message was sent from a fake account in the name of Eleena Chauhan, demanding Rs 50,000 in support.

After the incident became public, both singers urged their supporters to be cautious. On Facebook, singer Rachana Rimal wrote:
“I have come to know that an attempt has been made to defraud people using my photo and by opening a fake account. Please do not fall for such a scam. Be careful, I have not asked anyone for money. Someone is misusing my name and photo for fraud. Whoever is doing this should stop immediately.”

Similarly, singer Eleena Chauhan warned her well-wishers:
“I have received information that some people are misusing my Facebook ID to collect money. Everyone is requested to be cautious and not give money to such fraudsters. If you come across any suspicious ID or message, block or report it immediately.”

Police are still not fully operational after the Gen-Z protests. One of the key agencies investigating online fraud, the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, was destroyed in arson. In this difficult situation, investigating and prosecuting fraudsters has become challenging. Taking advantage of the gap, online scammers have become more active.
