Finance Minister To Avoid Personal Social Media To Strengthen Institutional Structure

Kathmandu: Rameshwor Khanal has decided not to be active on his personal social media accounts while serving as Finance Minister. According to the Ministry of Finance, no posts will be made on Minister Khanal's X, Facebook, or Instagram accounts during his tenure.

Minister Khanal's official accounts, Facebook (Rameshwor Khanal), X (@rameshwor), and Instagram (@rameshwor), remain in operation. The ministry clarified that any information shared through accounts other than these is not official.

The ministry also warned the public not to be misled by unofficial accounts and not to engage with illegal activities promoted through them. As Finance Minister, Khanal will prioritize sharing information through official Ministry of Finance channels.

Publishing institutional information on personal social media is considered inappropriate. At Khanal’s request, he will remain inactive on personal accounts until he assumes office. The ministry aims to promote digital good governance by using official websites and social media instead of personal accounts.

Government presence on official platforms had weakened when previous prime ministers and ministers were active on personal social media. With Khanal relying on the ministry’s platforms, official websites and institutional social media will now be managed by ministry staff.

Assistant Spokesperson and Information Officer Kishor Dhakal said Minister Khanal has already made public the ministry-provided email for complaint management. Khanal will use institutional platforms rather than personal ones for official communication.
