Bipin Joshi’s 30-Second Video to Be Released This Evening

Kathmandu: Preparations are underway to release the video footage of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum (HMF) announced in a statement on Wednesday that the 30-second video will be made public this evening.

Israeli media outlets, including the Times of Israel, released a still image of Bipin earlier today with the permission of his family. The image is reportedly taken from a short video recorded a few weeks after his abduction. The family is set to release the full footage at 7:55 p.m. Israeli time (around 10:40 p.m. Nepali time).

“The signs of life found in Gaza that we are sharing with you today have strengthened our firm belief that he is alive,” the Joshi family said in a statement issued through the forum.

According to the forum, the video was obtained by the Israeli army and shown to Bipin’s family through intelligence officials. It is believed to have been filmed in November 2023, though his current status remains unknown.

Bipin, a native of Kanchanpur, had gone to Israel to study agriculture under the ‘Learn and Earn’ program. He was kidnapped during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023.

His mother and sister, Pushpa, have been actively campaigning for his release. They traveled to Israel and the United States, meeting high-level officials, including the Israeli President and the Speaker of Parliament. Pushpa also addressed the crowd at ‘Hostage Square’ in Tel Aviv, calling for her brother’s safe return.

Recently, they visited the United Nations headquarters in New York, where they met UN Secretary-General António Guterres and urged him to take diplomatic steps for Bipin’s release.
