Kathmandu: ChatGPT’s cheapest subscription plan has been launched in Nepal. OpenAI on Thursday expanded its most affordable plan, ‘ChatGPT Go’, to 16 countries in Asia, including Nepal.
With this, users from a total of 18 Asian countries will now be able to access advanced AI features at a lower cost. The ChatGPT Go plan was previously launched in India in August and Indonesia in September.
The countries included in the new rollout are Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, East Timor, and Vietnam.
According to information provided by OpenAI, ChatGPT Go plan web and Android subscriptions are already available for users in Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. However, this feature is not yet available on the iOS app.
Pricing and Features
The ChatGPT Go plan is much cheaper than the company’s other individual plans like ChatGPT Plus ($20 per month) and ChatGPT Pro ($200 per month).
The plan was launched at ₹399 (around NPR 640) per month in India and ₹4.53 (around NPR 700) in Indonesia, which is a nominal price compared to other plans. While payments can be made in local currency in some countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Pakistan, in Nepal there is a charge of ₹5 (over NPR 700), which may vary depending on local taxes.
What Are the Features?
The main objective of this affordable plan is to increase access to the company’s latest AI model, GPT-5. ChatGPT Go includes all the features of the free version along with extended access to image generation, file upload, advanced data analysis, and more.
It has higher usage limits for core chat and devices than the free plan. The Go plan offers twice the memory of the free plan, allowing for more personalized responses.
The expansion comes at a significant juncture for OpenAI. The company recently announced at its DevDay 2025 conference that ChatGPT has reached 800 million weekly active users globally, up from 700 million in August.
OpenAI reported that as of May 2025, the lowest-income countries had more than four times the rate of AI chatbot usage compared to the highest-income countries. This figure highlights the importance of Asian markets.
The expansion is also seen as direct competition with Google. Google recently launched a similarly priced Google AI Plus plan targeting countries including Nepal, which provides access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and other creative tools.
