Cyber Bureau Investigating Fake Social Media Accounts Created in Prime Minister’s Name

Kathmandu: The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has launched an investigation into fake social media accounts created in the name of Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

Cyber Bureau spokesperson SP Deepak Raj Awasthi said the process of shutting down those accounts has already begun. “We started the investigation after receiving information that several fake accounts were opened using the Prime Minister’s name, following a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers,” he said.

According to Awasthi, more than 26 fake accounts have been found so far. “Most of them are on Meta platforms, though fake accounts have also appeared on other networks,” he added.

Earlier, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers had issued a statement warning of legal action against those spreading misinformation by creating fake social media IDs in the Prime Minister’s name.
