​​Prime Minister Karki’s Facebook and X Accounts Verified, Gray Checkmark Removed From Oli’s X

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s Facebook and X accounts have been verified. After fake accounts started circulating following her appointment, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers publicly shared her official social media handles in Asoj. Prime Minister Karki now has official accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and X.

Her Facebook account has received a blue checkmark, while her X account has been verified with a gray checkmark. The gray checkmark was added only a few days ago.

X assigns gray checkmarks to the official accounts of current government officials and offices. While Prime Minister Karki’s account was verified, the gray checkmark was removed from former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official X account. X took this step after Oli left office.

However, Prime Minister Karki’s official Instagram account has not yet been verified at the time of this report.

Subash Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Information Technology Division at the Prime Minister’s Office, said Karki’s secretariat handled the verification process.
“This work was done by the secretariat. The necessary documents were sent from there,” Dhakal told TechPana.

X typically removes the gray checkmark once an individual leaves an official position. For example, after Donald Trump was elected president by defeating Joe Biden in the United States, Biden’s official X account was archived. No posts have been made from that account since January 20, 2025, though the gray checkmark remains.

That account served as Biden’s official X handle during his presidency. After leaving office, Biden’s personal X account now carries a blue checkmark, while Trump’s X account has a gray one.
